Helping trainees

Project Name: 2nd Half Training Kitchens & Cafe

Location: St George’s Methodist Church, Boscombe, Bournemouth

Volunteer Title: Training Kitchens & Cafe Volunteer

Time Commitment: Mons, 8.30am – 2.30pm on a rota basis

Role Description: You will be passionate about food and helping people. 2nd Half is designed to create a structured programme of skill-building and work opportunities to help at least 12 ex-rough sleepers per year. The aim is to rebuild their skills and self-esteem so that they are ready and able to gain employment.

The key to the success of this project is to have enthusiastic, positive and trustworthy volunteers who are happy to work alongside our vulnerable adults.

You need to be prepared to work as part of a team both in the kitchen and serving customers in the café, allowing our guests to take the lead role and supervise them as needed.

Full training and equipment are provided.

Key skills: experience in a kitchen and cafe environment is a benefit but not essential. Your love for people and food is key to this role.

You will gain experience in:

  • volunteering in a kitchen and cafe environment
  • supporting vulnerable adults
  • being part of a small but close team
