DoorStop Shop

Welcome to the Doorstop Shop!

What is it?

An online charity shop with a real shop window. Many of the high quality goods have been made or upscaled by ex-rough sleepers. All the profits go into helping ex-rough sleepers start a new life.
We sell our products on line and in our shop window at St John’s Church.

Who runs it?

We are a local team of ethically-minded volunteers, ex-roughsleepers, trainees and paid staff who all share a passion and vision that homelessness must be addressed and lives improved. We care and want to make a difference in our community.

What we do:

Through our online and physical store, we offer the local community an opportunity to purchase quality up scaled and newly crafted wooden items made by our trainees, as well as selected wooden furniture jewellery and other useful products of a high standard.

Why we do it:

We want people who are caught in a cycle of homelessness and associated issues to have every opportunity of breaking free and living the lives they deserve – both short-term (money from sales) and long-term (learning and developing skills including woodwork, design, admin, sales and customer service). These are abilities that could be, without hyperbole, life changing.

Where do the profits go?

Some examples are as follows:

  • Train fares to see family
  • Deposit for a move-on flat
  • Costs of obtaining ID or passport
  • Purchase of white goods (eg. new fridge or washing machine)
  • Costs of a training course or qualification
  • Driving lessons to help gain employment

We ensure all the money received goes right back into supporting those who truly need help and deserve rewards for their efforts.

What can you do?

  • You can buy from us knowing that your money will help support our vital work and ministry in this area.
  • You can donate quality items to us for sale again knowing that your items really are making a difference.
  • You can tell others about our shop: spreading the word is key too.
  • If you have faith, you can pray that this has real impact for people’s lives.

What is a home?  It’s where you are safe, you have some encouragement (love) and you have a purpose. None of the people we are working with had this whilst they slept on our streets, so our plan through our various projects is to make people feel at home. All our projects take steps to make people know they have value and are loved.
